Additional effects, the other lite textures.
While the softedge is almost always desirable, the other textures will only have use in specific scenes. Frnchwin can be used to break a rectangular light into "panes," and Venlite will nicely reproduce the strips from light passed through slits. Strobe simply flashes the light off and on during an animation.
PC users have Caustics which can be used to produce random and chaotic banding in light, and Purphaze, which makes the chaotic banding occur in random colors.
